About the Library

Bingham University Library started with the appointment of and assumption of duty by the University Librarian, Pastor John O. Arosanyin, in April 2006. Support for the University Library has largely come from Society for International Missions also known as Serving in Missions (SIM). Initial financial support through SIM came from Mr. Howard Claassen, an associate of late Dr. Jim Kraakevik, a great supporter himself of our library development.

The library has grown from zero level in space, staffing and collection to the current library building with a sitting capacity of 250 users, 34 staff members (Librarians, Library Officers, Library Assistants and other support staff) and a book collection of over 12,000 volumes. The former lecture room serving as the university library is now the library annex and holds the library's Science and Basic Studies collections.

We operate from six points:

1. Bingham University Main Library, Karu Campus
2. The College of Health Sciences Library – Medical Library, Karu Campus
3. The Computer Science Library, FOST Building, Karu Campus
4. The Faculty of Humanities, Social & Management Sciences Library – Resource Room, Karu Campus
5. The BHUTH Library, BHU Teaching Hospital, Jos Campus
6. The Faculty of Science & Technology Library – Library Annex, Karu Campus

The main library of the University provides collections and services to support Faculties or Programmes not specifically served by the branch libraries.

Bingham University Library was established in April 2006 with the appointment of the first University Librarian, Pastor John O. Arosanyin. From its humble beginnings — with no dedicated space, no staff, and no collection — the library has grown into a fully-fledged academic library serving thousands of students and staff across multiple campuses.

Generous support from the Society for International Missions (SIM), particularly through Mr. Howard Claassen and the late Dr. Jim Kraakevik, provided the foundation for early library development. Today, the library boasts a sitting capacity of 250 users, over 34 professional and support staff, a print collection of more than 12,000 volumes, and access to numerous electronic databases and digital resources.

The library continues to expand its reach through branch libraries on the Karu and Jos campuses, ensuring that all faculties and departments have access to the resources they need to support teaching, learning, and research at Bingham University.
